Saturday Evening News Happy 4th of July!
Today is George's birthday and we went to the Nottoway River and cooked out on the shore, did a little fishing and artifact hunting and the kids swam in the river. It was a really nice day and everyone had fun and are now wore out! Whew!
The garden has been producing snaps, cucumbers, squash and zucchini daily. I have started to can some snaps for fall and winter meals and I might try my hand at sweet pickles. I'm not as leery of the pressure cooker as I once was and listening to it brings back so many memories of Mama's kitchen growing up. She would cook a pot roast in the pressure cooker and I loved to hear the sound of the steam releasing from the gauge.
Nathan's friend Tyler, who lives down the road, came over two days this past week and played with Nathan. He hasn't seen him in quite a while since they go to different schools but they quickly rekindled their bond and played inside and outside and back and forth finding all sorts of things to do and get in to. The slip-n-slide was popular once again and Tyler helped Nathan by showing him the right way to do it. Nathan tried and bruised his jawbone and cut his neck. Oh well, he was a trooper and didn't cry that long.
The beautiful rainbow showed up after a shower passed through and I was lucky to find it. Living in the country has afforded me several opportunities to see these wondrous creations and leave me with such a comforting feeling.
